How to choose a brand photographer to complement your copywriting

As you may know, I am all about the words.

I know when I like a graphic or a photo but, man, do I admire the things designers and photographers can do.

Thing is, we humans are visual creatures. Do you ever see a logo or a photo and are hit with an immediate sense of...attraction? Intrigue? Excitement, belonging, or inspiration?

Copy truly does a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to communicating your brand and your offer but, as they say, photos are often worth a thousand words.

That’s why, if you’ve invested in your brand’s copywriting and written content, you should also be considering your brand’s visuals and photography too.

When the two align...that’s when the magic really happens.

If you’re in a spot to invest in brand photography, your choice in a photographer is huge. Like copywriters, their goal is to capture each individual brand’s essence, but there’s no doubt they have their own style too. You’ve got to find the right fit.

You need to find someone who:

  • Makes you feel comfortable

  • Has the ability to meet you where your brand is at

  • Whose personality and energy vibes with yours

  • Whose general visual aesthetics fit your brand

  • Who has options within your budget

My brand photoshoot: Megan Maundrell Photography

I had never gotten any brand photography done until this past December.

So when I connected with Megan Maundrell and booked a mini-brand shoot, I was a bit nervous. I was sure I was going to be too awkward or feel out of place for any of the images to turn out.

That would be a major bummer.

Of course, there was no need for my worries. Megan was the perfect fit for my brand. She made me feel crazy comfortable in front of the camera. I never really felt like I was “posing,” just moving around pretty naturally.

After getting the low-down on what my brand is all about, she gave me a ton of prompts to help capture my vibe without me having to think too much about it.

I’ve been told by copywriting clients that it often feels like I can “read their mind” when I capture their brand in words and it was the exact same feeling with Megan and her photos. When I got the files, I couldn’t help but start day dreaming about all the ways I’d be able to include them in my social media, website, and other marketing content.

That’s what you want in a brand photographer.
